Day Two

Today was an exciting day as we headed to the work site for the first time. After breakfast with members of the church, most of us headed to the work site to get down to business. Here is what the work site looked like.

Hopefully, by the end of next week there will be a church building in that picture. Most of today's work involved digging a ditch which will provide the foundation for the walls. Some areas were very rocky and it took a team effort to dig the trenches.

There was also work to be done putting all the rebar together for the bricks. That work was fun because it could be done in the shade and involved some ingenious tools.

One of the best parts about getting to the work site was working alongside our Honduran brothers and sisters. Everyone in the church refers to each other as "hermano" and "hermana"; it really highlights the reality that we are one body and all God's adopted children. Building a building is important, but building relationships is even more important. We all had lunch together and Alex shared his testimony with everyone (he wouldn't let it be recorded). After the testimony, the members of the church sang a song for us.

After lunch we continued working on the trench. It was hard work made even more difficult by the hot sun and high humidity.

Eventually, though, and by the grace of God, we finished the trench. It was exciting to stand back and see that by working together, Americans and Hondurans, we were able to accomplish something that at some points seemed like it would never get done.

Everyone is doing pretty well. There were some headaches and some sunburns, but over all the trip is off to a good start. On Friday we'll continue work on the church as well as begin VBS. We would ask for your continued prayers for health, safety and that God's will would be done in and through us.

  3. Thanks for the update. We are praying. Walking around the ditch, Scott, reminded me of Nehemiah checking out the wall and how everyone worked together on it! Praying today as VBS starts!
